Lehigh Valley Family Health Center

Who are we?

The Lehigh Valley Family Health Center opened its doors in 1995 when Dr. Brian Stello joined Dr. John Reinhart shortly before his retirement.   The first resident, Dr. Jane Borish began her residency in 1996, and the first full class of residents started later that same year.   Since then, the residency has graduated an average of six residents per year who have provided the majority of care for the patients of the FHC.   In addition to the residents, the FHC is also the home practice for approximately ten attending physicians, a nurse practitioner, a pharmacist, a social worker, and six behavioral medicine faculty.

As a practice, we strive to provide the best care we can for our patients at the same time as teaching our residents to become a new kind of family physician.   We are working hard to bring to our patients a Patient Centered Medical Home where they can come to meet most of their health care needs whether they are physical, emotional, or social.   Our model of care is centered on helping patients to help themselves to become as healthy as possible and involves prevention as well as care for acute illnesses and long term chronic conditions.

Explanation of Residency Program

Resident - A person who graduated from medical school who is in the process of completing specialty education in family medicine

Attending - A physician who is board-certified in family medicine and who teaches our family medicine residents in addition to caring for their own patients

CRNP - Certified registered nurse practitioner who is licensed to provide independent care in our practice

PA-C - Physician assistant who is licensed to provide care under the supervision of an attending physician

PCP - Primary care provider who may be any of the above

Our practice is part of Lehigh Valley Health Network’s family medicine residency program.   This means we are a teaching practice.   All of the residents have graduated from medical school and are generally here for three years.   An attending physician is present in the building at all times to provide teaching and consultation.   Because your primary care provider (PCP) is not in the office every day, they are part of a team to best meet your medical needs.   The team includes your PCP, nurses and reception staff.   If your PCP is not here on a day that you wish to be seen, you may be asked to see one of his or her team members.
